Uughh, haying time...

Sorry, I must admit I ordered a stromboli for dinner tonite. We are trying to make hay between rain storms, one field is down and raked, and as I type, they are mowing more. This has been the worst season in years! The forecast is for hot and sunny the next 2 days, so hopefully we can bale and get some in the barn. I dislike mealtimes during hay season, they are so disrupted. Always late and always fast!! Plus, I had to go to Tractor Supply this afternoon for mower parts(30 miles away!). Hence, ordering dinner...I guess I shouldn't complain, at least I am able to order dinner! Usually, I plan ahead and use my crockpot, but this came out of the blue. Oh, the wonderful life of being a farmwife!!! Truly, I love it and wouldn't change a thing. Wellllll, maybe to have the parts store a little closer!! Just some crazy thoughts here, bear with me!Wink

Re: Uughh, haying time...

Howdy back at ya, Barb! We'll be thinking about you! Hope you get done before this hot, humid weather arrives. At least, it's supposed to be that way in SW Ohio. Good luck with your haying!

Re: Uughh, haying time...

Sounds like our heat wave has made it's way east!!

Re: Uughh, haying time...

New comment..old post! I haven't been around much..between picking and putting up garden produce and trying to get the last 10 acres of original hay, I have been BUSY! We are doing hay tonite, and have 4 or 5 acres left. It has been so hard this year with the weather. Then the guys want to get second cut on about 10 more acres. Today I froze peas, which my grandson and granddaughter helped me pick( ages 7 & 5). We got nearly a bushel. I also am making some mixed pickles.Cukes, celery, onions, red peppers, carrots, cauliflower and hot peppers. They are on ice now, ready to finish this eve. I won't be doing the Farmer's mkt. tomorrow, there's just too much to do here. There will be next month!! I will be around, I check in often thru-out the day, when I can. I will post on everyone's topics when I can!!! Now, it is back to the hayfield with the drinks I came to get(I took time to say howdy to you guys) !!

Re: Uughh, haying time...

Back from the fields(for now!). Thanks for all the encouraging words and wisdom. Had a little trouble tonite, but not bad!!! And Tom, we have 2 IH tractors(older models), so your post is funny! And yeah, TSC is a great store! While I was there, I got a good deal on a horse blanket..$9 !! Ya just can't go there for parts alone!!! Also, the stromboli was good, and VERY filling!!

Re: Uughh, haying time...

Aren'tch spose the make hay while the sunshines!!!  Tom, one my children's favorite songs is International Harvester, a real treat on our trip was to see a John Deere Combine up close, man they are huge!  One of my favorite things was visiting my Grandfather's ranch during hay season, we being sweet little city girls got to ride on the flatbed the tractor was pulling, while my Dad and some hired hands would sling up bales.  Best of all was climbing to the very top bales in the barn!  His cattle ranch was nestled in the hills of the very northeastern corner of WA near a small town called Northport - It's one of the most beautiful places in WA.

Don't feel lany guilt over a bought meal, that happens every once in a while - you do just fine the rest of the year!!

But look at the bright side, you got to go to the best store in the world - TSC

Re: Uughh, haying time...

Hey Tom!! I returned to TSC today. They were supposed to have the spline-bolts for our old New Holland mower. Guess what? They weren't there!!! And yes, I called ahead. Oh, a trip to TSC is never a waste, tho'. They had some really neat farm toys marked 50-75% off , so I did some early Christmas shopping for the grandkids. There's no great loss without some small gain!! And, you guessed it, I'll be back there in a couple of days!!!!

Re: Uughh, haying time...

Not sure where you are haying but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Don't feel guilty about ordering for supper. My daughter in new mexico knows your pain. They are hay farmers too. Have a good and safe haying season  and let the parts run be few. linda kennedy

Re: Uughh, haying time...

Soemtimes you need a little "spurge" from an outside source to get grounded again.  Don't feel guilty that you had to order out for supper tonight, think of it as a reward for all of the times that you made supper, lunch, etc, and relish the thought that this is a good meal, but I can do better! (When you have time, LOL)

I heard about all the rain you folks are having out there, wish you could send me a little for my garden so I wouldn't have to water so much.

Will keep you in my thoughts tonight at work and pray that your growing season on the farm is productive and will sustain you.

Blessings Barb!
