Just thought I'd share this..when my pumpkins were just starting, and were a little larger than a softball, I took a ballpoint pen and "etched" each grandchild's name onto one. As the pumpkins grew the sratched surface healed over, much like the bark of a tree. We now have nice, big pumpkins with names on them. Yesterday, I got all 5 kids and let them run through the patch. Imagine their surprise to see pumpkins with their very own name! I did this with my own kids, and now it is special to do it for theirs!! Such a small thing, really, but it makes for such happiness for the little ones! Try it next year if you can!

Re: A garden story..
That is a cool idea, Lovina will love that one...I can see her sons Benjamin and Joseph getting a thrill out of that!
Re: A garden story..
What a terrific idea! Finding "their" pumpkin with their name on it will be one of those wonderful childhood memories I'm sure your grandkids will never, ever forget.
Re: A garden story..
Barb, what a fantastic idea! If I had the space for a large garden, I would do that for my grandkids, too! They would love it!
