Anyone remember?

Remember when I first joined this site, I said that I participate in our local Farmer's Market? Well that was today! I baked all day yesterday..I made several loaves of bread(white and honey-wheat), 3 pies, 2 cakes, 2 pans of cinnamon rolls, a whole bunch of whoopie pies, and a few other things. I also took eggs and bunches of radishes . The turnout was not as good as usual , because of the weather, but it was not bad. I only had to return home with 1 loaf of bread, a rhubarb crunch, a couple doz. eggs, and 2 bunches of radishes. The profit was good! I always enjoy visiting with the other vendors..that's part of the fun!! A lady visiting from Las Vegas bought bread and whoopie pies to take home for her husband, I thought that was pretty neat! All in all, it was a good day. Next one is Aug. 8th, 9-2 , in Turtlepoint,PA. See ya there!(kidding!!).Wink

Re: Anyone remember?

The sweet corn I planted is prolly gonna cost me $3 for a dozen ears, since it did so poorly.  We've had a lot more rain this year than the ones recently past.  Still, I'm going to harvest a dozen ears which beats zero ears.   And all y'all know how I'm gonna fix 'em too.  More creamed corn!

Barb, if you need help next haying, give me a call.  I can supply a strong back and some cooking skills & would enjoy the chance to get out of Florida for a bit.

Re: Anyone remember?

here in Indiana, the bi-colored sweet corn is selling for $3.50/dozen. It is locally grown here in Southern Indiana.

Re: Anyone remember?

Around here, right outside of Wright-Patterson AFB, Brentlinger's farm is selling corn for $5/doz., or $2.50 for six ears, which is a little higher than last year's price, but it is so worth it! Yum! We like the bi-color the best.  Smile

Re: Anyone remember?

wow, that is a good price on corn, right now in northern new york where I live it is twelve bucks a dozen for six to seven inch ears, when I was a kid, my dad worked for the state road crew, he would bring home a baker's dozen for a quarter, ahhhh, the good ole days......

Re: Anyone remember?

Wish I was close enough to go, Barb! I love visiting farmer's markets. It sure sounds like you had a busy day of baking yesterday -- good grief! Bet you will sleep well tonight!

Re: Anyone remember?

I would be there if I could. When I peddled my vegetables ,prices were  alot different than now and so is everything else. A friend of mine in Iowa bought last week a dozen ears of sweet corn for $6.  Back in my  day ,I was selling them  $2 for a bakers dozen(13). I sold eggs for a neighbor for $1 a dozen.  Herad of whoppie pie but have never eatten or made it .
