the smells of FALL here in west union, ohio

living here so close to the appalachian mountains in the southern part of ohio is a great experience.  you don't have to go far in order to smell and feel the coming of my favorite time of year.  hubby, the kids and i love to walk along the country roads here and listen to all of the sounds of nature.  squierrels are gathering the food that they will need for the coming winter, fireplaces are being used in the evenings, and soon the leaves will start to change to bold, bright colors.  this is where we live and i don't think that we would want to be anywhere else in whole world

barb,

i was so glad to hear from you.  people who live in the towns don't get to see the real beauty of nature first hand.  as i said, i would not live anywhere else in the world but here.  i love to rake the leaves so that the kids can play around in them.  i love snowy evenings and the fireplaces that smell so good when hubby and i are taking a long quiet walks down the lanes.  we have a small sleigh in our garage and several horses that we board....I JUST LOVE RIDING IN THAT SLEIGH..........OMG, i can't wait for it to snow

Sometime next month we will be coming your way!  I think we will start with a visit to the Circleville Pumpkin Show then we go on towards Gallipolis and that area to stay the night.  We follow that up with a drive up SR Ohio 7 and then on thru Portsmouth to the Shawnee State forest.  On our trip we visit the Miller bakery and furniture stores.  We usually have them make us a deli sandwich and we sit in the picnic area to eat it.  We go on to Keim's and shop then head towards home.

It does feel like fall here doesn't it?  We rode the motorcycle to Anacortes yesterday to the Oyster Run and it was 39 Degrees when we left my house at 5:30 in the a.m.

The afternoon was gorgeous, love the sun and cool air.  Noticed a few trees just starting to change, in a few weeks it will be beautiful.  I love this time of year too.

Re: the smells of FALL here in west union, ohio

Seems like it came on fast, too.  Wow, that's quite a ride - I'm glad you had good weather for it.  Was that about 3 hrs each way?  Anacortes sure is beautiful, and yes, I've noticed quite a few trees already changing over the last couple weeks even.

Re: the smells of FALL here in west union, ohio

Yes it took approx. 3 hrs. We stopped and got a cup of coffee and a muffin....have to give our "behinds" a stretch too!

I loved the Arlington/Darrington farms and the openness (sp) of the area.  Really beautiful.

Re: the smells of FALL here in west union, ohio

That was the next thing I was going to ask about - are you saddle sore after a days riding?  I bet you did see some lovely signs of fall, if you went out towards Arlington/Darrington nearer to the mountains.  Oh, we need to take the children on a drive, we've all had that darn lingering cold that's going around - makes for a house full of grouches, don't know that I'd enjoy spending a long time in the car with'm all!!

Re: the smells of FALL here in west union, ohio

That last hour on the way home was a bit rough.  I just got over that same cold.  I think the fresh cool air really cleared my head and I slept like a baby Sunday night.  I noticed quite a few "pumpkin patches" being set up Sunday.  That might be just what your children need to perk them up.  It helped me.  Take care!

Re: the smells of FALL here in west union, ohio

sounds wonderful. Southwest Kansas has very few trees but the sunsets are just as pretty and peaceful as you describe your area.
