Is it appropriate to give cash?
Re: Wedding
This is just me....but I wouldn't recommend it....gift seems more appropriate...
Re: Wedding
How about sewing items; treadle belt, Schmetz needles 80/10, Gutermann thread-white, black, beige, grey, Kleen-Heet kerosene alternative, ironing pin, hand crank dough maker, clothes hamper stocked with laundry soap, wide mouth canning jars plus plastic lids, vinegar, large bag of aminal grade baking soda-laundry and cleaning, and Amish Cook cookbooks.
Blessings,
CarylAnne
Re: Wedding
Subscriptions to Amish publications are nice too I think...The Budget, Plain Interests are two we are familiar with.
Re: Wedding
I forgot to give you any ideas.
House:broom, dustpan, cooking or baking utensils, dish towels, bath towels,
Yard: garden hose, rake, hoe
Barn: tie rope, pitchfork, manure shovel, wheelbarrow, push broom, stock bucket
Re: Wedding
Yep, you won't find any or many Amish registered at Target or Kohls, that is for sure I think Gus pretty much covered it..I've given a couple of Amish newleyweds gifts through the years...towels always seem to be a good safe bet, nice towels of neutral color....Amish families are large, you can never have enough towels, so I like those as a gift....
Re: Wedding
Hello,
Well, being Amish, I've been to a lot of Amish weddings. The Amish always try to give useful household items or items for the yard or barn. Smaller items that can be wrapped are often wrapped in bath towels with bungi cords. That way the gift and the wrapping are useful.
It's always wise to contact the parents of the young couple to find out what it is that they need or are hoping to receive. I've often seen duplications so checking it out saves everybody some time and trouble.
Don't be offended if you don't get a thank you note. I've been to a lot of Amish weddings and I don't know if I've ever received a thank you note for a gift. They open the gifts the afternoon of the wedding and say, "Thank you" at that time. I guess that is supposed to be sufficient.
Re: Wedding
I think traditionally they give useful items, household, tools, etc, so I guess something along those lines would be proper, Kevin would be the expert here....
