Amish people on fire for Jesus recommend The Amish Cook book on their best reads list

This is not the norm.  Amish people don't go out "witnessing to lost souls".  Frankly they are not recruiting outsiders into thier Amish faith.  However, this group is not your typical Amish group.  They appear to live and dress Amish but have experienced salvation and a deep personal relationship with Christ.  Here is a little about them.  Also, they recommend The Amish Cook At Home on their reads list.  Check it out....

Now there's a group I can join! One arguement I would make about the discussion above. I know that they follow the bible and that they integrate it in their lives but either they missed or chose to ignore the great commission of Jesus. This group of Amish on the other hand are right on target. It's not enough for people to behave differently than the rest of society and expect them to get it. It needs to be told the reason for their trust in God-the need for salvation from sin, and obedience to His Word.

well, this is interesting.  i had no idea they were not supposed to read the BIBLE beyond what the bishop recommended/allowed

our pastors are always trying to encourage us to read more,,

Hi, Brenda,

I shouldn't have let the post about "not reading the Bible" stand unanswered.  In my experience, that just isn't true at all.  I mean, I suppose there might be a renegade bishop or two out there that does that....but as a general rule the Amish integrate the Bible into all aspects of their life and are encouraged to read and interpret it....Never, ever, ever have I heard about a bishop discouraging church members from a full embracing of the Bible. - Kevin

Hi Kevin, I'm glad you finally spoke up on this topic.. I really didn't want to get into it with every one. Colin know a lot of Mennonites (I know not exactly the same) and they would be very offended if someone were to accuse them of not being Christians. The ones I know are very good Christians . When something really bad happens (tornado for example) the Mennonites are the first to arrive to help (even if it's the 'english' that need help). Just because people don't go around trying to 'convert' others doesn't make them not Christian.

kevin, i'm so sorry that i mis spoke on the amish and the BIBLE. when i first came on the site, i let everyone know that i was completely unknowledgeable as to the amish culture. i thought that i could rely on the books from the library here in my area for some good information, it seems as if i was wrong. i would like to apologize to those i might have harmed in some way

Re: Amish people on fire for Jesus recommend The Amish Cook ...

I was wondering about that. Any Amish that I have met seem to embrace and live by the Bible. As far as witnessing, yes they do. Quietly, through their way of life and their actions.Remember, actions speak louder than words!

Suzieque- This is exactly what these Amish are doing.  Their eyes have been "opened" so to speak.  They are thirsting for a deeper knowlege for Christ.

Re: Amish people on fire for Jesus recommend The Amish Cook ...

could it be that some of the amish are starting to read the BIBLE in full instead of just what the bishops are telling the people to read? maybe, and this is just my thinking on this matter, some of the communities are in the beginnings of a new revelation in their religous training for the families. i have been doing lots of reading from the library here in town about the amish and i am learning quite a bit. why is it that some of the amish shy away from photos being taken of them, while others don't seem to mind at all? i know that there are some that are more progressive than others, and in that frame of discussion, i am thinking that THIS group of amish would 'maybe' be reading the GOOD BOOK further than what the bishops would allow, could this be happening?
