The Amish Cook from Oasis Newsfeatures

Note From A Reader

Frankly I am just beside myself, wondering if the column will continue running, if Kevin and especially his parents are going to keep their homes, if there will be any more cookbooks that are of the quality that I have already purchased and read and love.

Shame on you if you are sending hateful emails about the pleas, shame on you if you are running to Lovina to tell her any gossip you think you might know and do not; shame on you if you do not delete any emails from Kevin that you do not think are appropriate and no longer want to receive.   Lovina and her family have let us into their lives on their terms and not ours.  That is the way it should be, and that is the way it is.

Do not want to participate, go packing and go some where else.

Frankly, the man has been up-front and personal, and in these days of deceit that speaks for a lot.

I had ordered a set of books while on a trip to Hawaii to visit and take care of my grandchildren while their daddy and mom were on trips for the Air Force.  After numerous calls and emails to him, he realized the problem and sent me a new set of books.  He stands by his word...and shame on those of you that are just part of the issues he is having to face everyday.  I do not have the extra money to sign up for the new videos, I do not have the money to give everytime there is an expression of need from him, but he stands by his word and should be given that.

Re: Note From A Reader

Oh my word! This sounds like a typical family or church group. Kevin, I don't know you or your family, but I think you're trying very hard to do a job that is very difficult. The naysayers remind my of my late Aunt Ivy. No matter what you did she found something wrong with it. No pleasing her, no siree! I don't understand why a person who finds the column not to her/his liking would want to continue reaadng it. I'd say it's time for that person to find another place to go and leave this one to those of us who like being here. Best wishes to all. Marj

Re: Note From A Reader

Hello, just returned from a 3wk. vacation to Illinois to visit family and do a little sightseeing. Unfortunately, my brother's computer was down, and I was out of touch with what's going on. Sorry Kevin, that I was unable to participate with the different contests, etc. going on to keep The Amish Cook going, since I didn't have a computer available.        I just wanted to thank topgvdawg, and others for these postings, because that's what I think is needed to be said on this website-Let the readers express their opinions about how grateful and supportive we are of Kevin and The Amish Cook Column! I couldn't have said it better than topgvdawg, and I admire her for what she said, and that she posted on here!   Yes, I feel like- let those who write such ugly emails to Kevin, KNOW that there are readers here who do not like or appreciated their input. We as readers stand behind- Kevin-100%, so those who have been sending him ugly emails. and acting childish behind his back- Read this- GIVE IT UP, we are sticking with Kevin!  Thank you, Kevin for all your hard work in keeping up The Amish Cook column!

Re: Note From A Reader

Janie, I want to thank you, TopDawg, and others so, so,so, so, so, so much....I am going to have an email update this week..

Amish Cook Column

Kevin,

It isn't often that I write on here but ....now it is time. I have followed the column for a few years and throughly enjoy it. Those people that don't like something that is written, voiced an opinion etc apparently have NO problems in the world. To me the column reflects a NORMAL family life that more people should try sometime. I'm sure we have all had our problems and it feels good to be able to have caring friends that can relate to this. Not one of us are perfect. Life has not always been easy. For those that don't like what is written can go to another website. They are not being forced to read this. Let those of us that enjoy it, continue to be able to enjoy.

Just stick with it Kevin!!!

Re: Shame On You

same here Kevin, I am behind  you one hundred percent.....I just wish I was financially able at this time to do so much more....Keep the faith and keep up the great work......

Re: Shame On You

I do not know what to say that has not already been said, but I certainly concur with all of you.  Kevin, I so support you and am so grateful for this website.  You do a wonderful job for what I am sure is very little monetary gain.  I  am praying for you and all who make this possible-esp. Lovina and her family.  Not only do I pray for the good  of the column for each of you and your challenges.  Many blessings to all,

Re: Shame On You

Thank you for everything Kevin.

Re: Shame On You

I guess in my absence of late, something hokey's been going on? I don't know for sure what, and probably don't need to,but I will vouch for Kevin's sincerity and say that he has always done well by me! I wish him only the best and much continued(and well-deserved!) success!! Don't allow a few bad apples to spoil the bushel,Kevin...most of us are on YOUR side!!

Re: Shame On You

I agree with everyone. Kevin is a very upstanding young man, and I am glad to have met him.... Barb

Re: Shame On You

Caryl,

Thank you, ou've been amazing...although I  hope and pray I don't need to reach out again I think one more day, one more pitch tomorrow and that might wrap it up.  Stay tuned for a new video message tomorrow to those on the email list - Kevin

Re: Shame On You

Weeellll, I thank topgvdawg and Janice so much for the kind words...I may take this thread down only because I have deliberately tried to keep my personal issues off the website.  This post was sparked by sendings on my email list.  People on the amishcookonline.com email list have been the last "firewall" that has kept the column alive.  Some have disagreed with my methodology and I respect their disagreement, I truly do....I've got plenty of flaws...I've botched book orders, made stupid mistakes, and just been plain sloppy through the  years....I hope the next 20 years are much smoother, but I could not have made it there without readers and I know that...I'll keep this thread up for now and see where it goes

Re: Shame On You

Kevin, this is my only post (other than to put up a recipe for frozen corn and my grandmothers hot german potato salad).  Please do not take it down as it was done in a way to support you and the things you have tried to keep the column and cookbooks and website going.  I meant no harm to you.  I am just done with hearing the negatives about what you are doing to keep going.  Many others would have just taken off with what they had, whether it belonged to them or to others, not kept their promises, and left...you have not; and you have kept your word.  I am a real person; my name is Barbara; I live in SW MO and have neighbors up the road that are Amish.  I go to shop at Amish stores in Dunnegan and Leadmine MO, and love my experiences there.

You take off if you feel the need, but actually think that just plain common sense should prevail here.  I, for one, do not take the priviledge of feeling like I know those that make this website, column, and books available to me lightly.  Blessings to all of you.  Barbara

Re: Shame On You

Out of respect and appreciation for your kind words, Topdawg (I'm calling you that because if I didn't that would be THREE Barbs on the same threadSmile), I am keeping the post up....I really do appreciate your words.

Re: Shame On You

I don't know what sparked this, topgvdawg, maybe I missed something, but I must agree with you that, in all my dealings with him (all of them by e-mail; I've not had the pleasure of meeting him in person), Kevin has always been above reproach.  He is honest and caring and, as you pointed out, goes out of his way to correct any errors that might occur on his part.  As I said, I don't know where this is coming from (and not sure I even want to), but to anyone reading this, please know that Kevin gets nothing but high marks from me -- and a truckload of thanks for his dedication in keeping The Amish Cook column and website afloat, even at his and his family's expense.  ~ Janice
