The Amish are known for their self-sufficiency and self-reliance. A pillar of their faith is isolation, the avoidance of acculturation. So the Amish, out of necessity, have often been forced to adopt their own innovations.  These innovations have evolved over the years into a rich repository of  home-remedies and household hints passed on through the German generations.

Elizabeth is no different from any other Amish housewife in that she has her own collection of home cures. The homemade insect trap (see the Ask Elizabeth section of this web-site) has been one of her most popular household hints. But she has many others. That's what this new part of the web site will be devoted to. I am always amazed on my visits to Elizabeth's at how many clever ways the Coblentzes have to clean, cook, garden, or perform minor household chores. This new section of the web site will share the best of Amish household hints. Enjoy!
