Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

I know it's late but here in quebec people, a lot people have on their table:  meat pie, chicken pie, turkey,  mashed potatoes and tourtiere du lac st-jean

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

Wondering...what is the last item that is written in French? Thanks!

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

It's a classic here in quebec....it's a meat pie (big big pie) with potatoes, and 4 differents meat (pork, beef, veal and chickens) yummyyyy

Wow, thank  you to everyone who shared their menus. I am planning on making turkey, cornbread stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean cassarole, corn, and Lovina's Sweet Potatoe cassarole.

Happy and Merry CHRISTmas to all on this list, Lovina's family and to you, Kevin!

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

My Christmas Dinner was last weekend. My son came home with the kids and we had Christmas then. They wanted to be in Atlanta this year for Santa to come. We had Roasted Turkey, Sprial Ham, cornbread dressing, Broccoli casserole, Baked sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top, homemade cranberry sauce, corn, green beans, green and black olived, rolls, Pumpkin, apple and chess pies, Mississippi Mud cake, tea, pop, and coffee. We will have a turkey breast and some dressing I froze and some veggies on Christmas day. It will just be my hubby and I. Merry Christmas to all.

I have a daughter and 2 daughters-in law that always help and add their own special touches. We always have alot of good, interesting dishes!! I am getting hungry just talkng about it!!!

Appetizers will be a smoked salmon/cheese ball, crackers, homemade sausage, Cougar Gold Cheese from Washington State Univ.

Dinner is turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, dressing, shrimp salad, pistachio salad, rolls, cranberries, pickles and olives.

Dessert will be apple and pumpkin pie made by my Dad and they are yummy!  Merry Christmas

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

Every year we try a new menu and I like to try things I've never tried before.  This year's menu:  Ember's pork chops, potato spinach casserole, belgian salad, strawberry squares, brussel sprouts, rolls  and gingerbread trifle.

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

Ember's pork chops.  I LOVE those!  It's about the only way I'll eat pork chops.  What's in a Belgian salad?  Sounds interesting.  Our big meal on Christmas is usually brunch.  It wouldn't be Christmas without crepes and lots of different fillings (fruit, potatoes, sausage, scrambled eggs, cheese, etc.).  And of course, birthday coffee cake for Jesus Smile

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

Christmas is at my Grandma's so I can tell you exactly what it will be:

turkey (the biggest one that fits in her roast pan), gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, jello salads, dinner rolls, bread & butter pickles, sweet pickles, fruit relish (called chili sauce up here where I am now), apple pie, mince pie, Christmas pudding (mine) & caramel sauce, cherry cheesecake, and various squares.

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

I always make a huge pot of homemade vegetable soup, and homemade yeast rolls for "grazing" throughout the day, after the dinner. This year my oldest son wants to fry a whole turkey. We will also have a cranberry glazed ham, yams, green beans, all the requisite pies and persimmon pudding. I also always make enough homemadebutter for the rolls. wouldn't be the same without it.

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

Persimmon pudding has been on our menu for years.  I live in Michigan but travel back to southern Indiana each fall in pursuit of the pulp.

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

This will be a quiet Christmas for me. I will make a turkey, home made noodles, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, and a pie. When all is finished I will made care packaages for my parents, Dad has macular degeneration and can't drive, Mom has alzhelmers so they are home bound for the most part. The second care package go to my husbands Mom, she is also home bound.  Here is wishing eveyone a safe and Merry Christmas.

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

I'm making cut-out cookies aka sugar cookies. For Christmas eve you never know what we're going to have.  Sometimes grandma will do all finger foods, other times we'll have pizza, or sometimes a full sit down dinner with ham and turkey.  Christmas day we are having ham, pork roast, chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, veggies casserole (very unhealthy with mayo and cream but oh so yummy), rolls, pasta salad, dressing, veggie tray, and lots of desserts. There ususally is cherry delight, pecan pie, and bread pudding.  And the big thing that you will see at every Verdier Christmas is a huge amount of shrimp cocktail.  We go through pounds and pounds of the stuff. It's just not Christmas if I don't ruinen my  appepitate by eating too much shrimp before dinner. If you're late....you won't get any....good way to make sure people are on time.  LOL :) The afternoon always ends with Grandma's Amaretto Colada's....think pina colada with amaretto instead of rum. YUM!!

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

The amaretto colada's sound amazing!

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

Cheryl is too far from me, so it doesn't matter, but your menu sounds awesome, I think I'll head up the road to your place for Christmas dinner!:)

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

dinner's at two!!

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

baked ham, roast turkey, sage and onion stuffing, cornbread and sausage stuffing, gravy, candied yams, mashed potatoes, green bean cassarole, cole slaw, squash, relish tray, homemade rolls, buttermilk biscuits, creamed pearl onions, corn on the cob, baked beans, cranberry sauce, both kinds, and cranberry orange relish, raisin sauce for the ham, and for some reason every big holiday dinner in our family there is always a huge, meaty, cheesy pan of lasagna, and of course pies, pumpkin, blueberry, cherry, apple, pecan, white christmas and cheesecake, none of it is very original, but this is the menu for about fourty relatives, and it has been this way my whole life, easter, thanksgiving and christmas, HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS..........

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

WOW cheryl that sounds great and yummy!!! How long does it take you to make all this?

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

my mom starts most of it the night before, peels potatoes, squash, makes the cranberry sauce, makes roll dough, bakes pies, and then on Christmas day my sister and me, and two sister inlaws show up early and pitch in, while everyone else is watching movies or playing games we are cooking, basting, slicing pies and setting the table, I can remember when it was my gramma and great gramma doing the cooking and I was one of the little ones staring in awe at the tree and playing games and watching movies, seems like just yesterday, christmas was much more fun back then, a lot more magical, now it's just a whole lotta work, but I love it, it is my favorite time of the year.  Hope you and hubby and the boys have a wonderful holiday...

Re: What everyone is making for Christmas dinner.

we are having a ham/turkey with home made gravy from both meats, sweet potatos, regular potatos, green beans/corn stuffing, pumpkin, apple, cherry, custard pies, applesauce, peaches, cranberries, home made ice cream (something i did a few days ago_ and last but not least, a huge pecan pie. dinner rolls that are home made/with home made butter...the dinner is at 4 p.m. sharp!!!!
