Buried in Snow

Well the snow storm hit here in Northern Kentucky.  As of this posting (9:20 am) we have 4 1/2 inches of snow and still snowing.  The snow is turning into freezing rain/sleet as I type and it is suppose to be like this until this evening when it turns back into snow.  Kevin, hope you are enjoying the weatherYell

Re: Buried in Snow

Man, KJuneBug, I wish I had all your tips when I shot all those snow pics this morning! Haven't had the camera long and don't know much about it, so I have been shooting everything in "auto" mode, lol But, hey, I don't think they turned out too bad. Thanks for your tips! Maybe next time... ~Diann

Re: Buried in Snow

I have a photo tip for shooting snow with a digital camera.  Snow is very difficult to shoot since it is white, it throws the "white balance" in the camera off, especially when you shoot in "auto". Some point and shoot dig. camera's have a snow setting.  If it doesn't do this:

Either move the dial on the top or in the menu change the camera to "A" mode. You then can change other settings within your camera, change the "white balance" from auto to the symbol that looks like a sunshine.  You can make other adjustments too to the ISO (shoot at 100 or 200 for snow) and F-stop, the f-stop number will depend on whether it is dark or light.  This will remove the pink cast from snow photos.  It probably sounds complicated, go to your camera's manual and look for these settings.

Re: Buried in Snow

I've had the camera (Kodak Easy Share) for about 5 years and love it.  The problem I had with the pink cast was part  'almost' dead batteries and nevering knowing that there is a snow setting.  I will be the first to admit that one of the reasons I got this camera was the ease of using it (vs the Gateway one I had before, ended up selling it due to being too complicated to use).  My rechargeable pack batteries won't keep a charge anymore and it eats through AA batteries.  I am hoping that once I can get out into the real world again, to head to Ciruit City and see how much a new battery pack for the camera will be.  That is if they still make ones for a camera as 'old' as mine.

Re: Buried in Snow

This is a new thing on an old post -  Energizer makes an AA battery for digital media.  They are blue, we think they might say lithium in the name too.  We got some at Target.  They are more expensive than regular batteries but they really do last longer.

Re: Buried in Snow

I did end up picking up a set just like this at the local Meijers.  As of this post it has lasted almost a month and still going.  A lot better than regular AA batteries!!!

Re: Buried in Snow

I just pulished pictures of the snow storm on my blog mammahasspoken.blogspot.com

It is beautiful but ah so dangerous.  Kevin, it's not a blizzard but I think it has the thrills that you were looking for Wink

Re: Buried in Snow

So, I was just reading a news story about your area of the country - sounds like you finally got a big snow storm!!  Be safe.

Re: Buried in Snow

AH yes, the dreaded words:Winter Storm Warning. We're supposed to get 6-12 inches overnight. Undoubtedly, schools will be delayed or closed. Although I don't have to worry about that personally,(my kids are grown), I still sort of do. My oldest son manages 2 school bus terminals in nearby counties. He spent a few days & nights with us last week, and was up at 4:00 am to try and decide upon closures, delays, etc.. I can't believe the amount of work that he does. I am som proud of it, but I never would have believed that one of my kids would be doing such a job. C'mon we're small potatoes here!!

Re: Buried in Snow

We got hit here, too! Was surprised to hear our schools were closed. With another 4-8" snow predicted for tonight, they are sure to be closed again tomorrow. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to shovel I go.....(it's all YOUR fault, Kevin, lol)   Sad~Diann

Re: Buried in Snow

We were off yesterday for snow and of course today, most likely tomorrow too.  I told my youngest that we might not have school until next week.  DH couldn't make it out to work so he had the fun of shoveling the driveway.  When he just finish it is when the snow plow when through throwing snow all over the clean drivewaySurprised

LUCKY you!  LOL   We have a decent amount here, but nowhere near that amount.  Hope you all drive very safely!

Re: Buried in Snow

We've got snow here in southeastern PA, too.  The kids started out with a two hour delay this morning, then it changed to CLOSED!  We only had about an inch at that time, but the roads were horrible.  It's been snowing ever since.  I didn't think this was coming in until this evening.  I hope my daughter calls out of work tonight, because I hate driving in the snow. Re: Buried in Snow

Last night when I picked up my son from work, we were talking about how he doesn't have to go in again until Saturday, Thank goodness, I HATE driving when the roads are bad.  My dh stayed home from work today, it's that bad and they keep saying the worst is yet to come........

Re: Buried in Snow

Ah, yes, snow...I'm thrilled..FINALLY....We have about four fresh inches here and we are expected to be decked tonight with a solid 7 more, so I am enjoying it all!!!
