The Amish Cook from Oasis Newsfeatures

Okay, This For Real "Witness" Fans!

I have written recently about this being the silver anniversary of the Harrison Ford Amish-oriented classic, Witness.  Well, it seems as if there is an opportunity for true Witness fans (like me who has seen it two dozen times) to really experience the movie by taking a "limited edition" tour of the original Witness farmstead.  I would LOVE to do this, but, SIGH, I always complain that Lancaster County is just too far for me to make a quick, economical journey.  So I doubt I'll be going, but for those of you who are closer or who can trek there, check out this.

Re: Okay, This For Real "Witness" Fans!

Hey there,

I am a die hard too! I also spend a ton of time in Lancaster County but just can't help myself! I am going on the 9th of October and bringing my 12 year old son who likes Witness, but supports my obsession:) I can't wait. I also went in 2005 and it was fun. I know that they tore down the original house to make a more efficient home for their family of 9 which I am bummed about, but I am anxious to see if it looks the same.

Hey Jamie, I hope you and your son have a wonderful time.  Too bad we're not going on the same day; it would have been fun to meet up with another Amish Cook fan face to face!  ~ Janice

Re: Okay, This For Real "Witness" Fans!

I read about this tour in Brad Igou's "Amish Country News" a couple of weeks ago, and I'm still in shock because I've actually signed up for it!  I'm in shock because (1) having lived in such a "tourist-dense" area for so long, I normally avoid anything & everything that even smacks of tourists here at home or anywhere else (including Lancaster County) and (2) the tour costs $45.95!!  Yipes, for that amount, I'd expect ol' Eli Lapp to come out and greet us personally!  But it is a limited-time opportunity, and the movie is one of my all-time favorites, so last night I gave in and ordered my ticket online.  There are only a few spaces left on any of the tours, so apparently they're not having any trouble selling tickets, even at that price.  I'm going on October 16th, and I will, of course, let you know how it was.  I have to admit I am excited about it!  If only Alexander Godunov were still alive to personally hand me my souvenir carved horse!
