The Amish Cook from Oasis Newsfeatures

Amish in Miami, No...But.....

I've expressed my annoyance before at newspapers that take the lazy way out with stories by assuming that their whole readership already knows certain things.  The Miami Herald ran a pictorial of Knaus Berry Farm the other day. This is not to be confused with its more famous west coast cousin, Knotts Berry Farm.  Knaus Berry Farm is a combination bakery-farmers market run on the outskirts of Miami during the winter by a German Baptist family.  The outfit is legendary for its homemade cinnamon rolls, milkshakes, and other confections.  Unfortunately, the Herald provides us with just photos - beautiful photos - but just photos and scant other information.  I'd just love to know the history of this place.  Any sort of "plain presence" in the Miami area is a rarity as most prefer the more staid, sedate west coast.  So if any of our site visitors know more about the Dunker owners of Knaus Berry and their history, I'd love to hear more.....Some people, as I found on an online discussion board, mistake the Miami Dunkers for Amish (a common, but easily avoidable mistake...people do that all the time here in Ohio).
