Are Magazine Sales Hurting??

LuvMaerz's picture

I subscribe to 4 different magazines... it seems my days of reading novels have fallen by the wayside.  At least I can get through a magazine in one sitting Wink.  Anyway, my niece/nephews sell magazine subscriptions each year for school fundraising, and we always renew our stuff then.  I get some pretty good deals, so most of the magazines we get have around 2 years left on the subscription at this point.

Well, this past week, I have received quite a few magazines in the mail, and they all have that little "Respond Soon!" envelope inside the plastic covering, trying to get me to renew.  I am subscribed through 2010... what more do you want?!  But I suppose it is just a sign of the times... with the money crunch, people are probably less likely to pick up a magazine at the market, etc. and the mag companies are trying to find a way to make it, too.  It is so sad to see how this economy thing effects everything/everyone on so many levels!

Re: Are Magazine Sales Hurting??

I got an offer in the mail today from a women's magazine that I do not currently subscribe to.  They offered me a whole year (17 issues) for $6.99!  A great price, but I already receive many women's magazines.  I threw the offer in the trash.  I love reading magazines, but they pile up so fast.  I do give them away when I am done.  I belong to a Freecycle group on Yahoo! so I list them there and people come pick them up.

Re: Are Magazine Sales Hurting??

I cancelled one of my magazines last month.  When I called them to do this, they offered me so much to 'keep me' as a valued customer including 1 year free.  Still turned it down and told them I didn't like the direction the magazine was going.  Also I have one that I have for my husband that sends me 'this might be your last issue' notice ALL THE TIME!!!  I quit trying to keep up when it expirers, just wait to see when it doesn't come and then I'll think about renewing it then.
