amish fire places

In our local Gainsville sun was an advertisment for a electric amish made [cabinet] heater[china made] for 289$ so whem my DH called ,I went on line and found their site, this was a two for one special, even a remote for 9$,It has some plain people making them and a amish looking man shaking hands with the Man that has the UL sign. Wondering if this is for real

Beachy Amish and New Order Amish groups have fewer limitations; some permit cars and electricity, and members may be difficult to distinguish from the general North American population, whom they refer to as "English".

Re: amish fire places

At home, most Amish speak a dialect known as Pennsylvania Dutch, Pennsylvania German, or Deitsch. Children learn English in school. The Amish are divided into separate fellowships consisting of geographical districts or congregations.

Re: amish fire places

Why are these people preying on our older parents, grandparents and the rest of the people trying to save money because of the economy!!!!These scammers should be dropped at the North Pole with a coffee pot and this so called heater...See what keeps them the warmest....Shame on the newpapers for running such a cruel add.

well, had an autheniec amish roll n glow fire place heater but it came un heatable and cockeyed in it's construction so good bye this product did not compare to all the beautiful work I'v seen over the years

"Amish" heater

I've been following this heater since it was first mentioned here.  There are now several news articles about it.  Buyer Beware is good advice for this item.  The advertising pulls on our respect for Amish built items and it also touts itself as a new technology when it is merely a dressed-up space heater from China, on wheels with a fire-place look.  It is advertised as using less electricity than a coffeepot, but so do all space heaters even ones that cost $15.00. So if you are interested, be cautious and do your research.  Kay

please be careful I know the guy in the ad and he is not Amish. also these units are advertised as being built with solid wood. they are not, they are built with plywood. they are amish built however the owner of the business is not Amish by any means.
