Lagrange,IN and hedge apples. Plus a side trip

What a beautiful day yesterday for a visit to Howe and Lagrange area, mid 50's, mostly sunny, just a wonderful day...Now my problem is fighting to go back to work today...

Pathway book store was the first stop and purchased several newer books and directories along with 2007/2008 catalog - I could stay in that store for hrs at a time -

After that we traveled down the road to Lehman's variety store ( I love this type of Amish stores, the ones where they are right out the back door of the house) and it seemed like Wednesday wash day down in the area, lots of clothes hanging out, took some pictures...

stop for a while indowntown Lagrange to eat and then we tryed to find Mom's bakery but for some reason never could locate it, which riding around searching we saw these hedge apples/Osage oranges of course you know you have to stop and pick some up just because, but after a internet search later come to find out they have some purpose (which I will later discuss)  so anyhoo, from there the search for a bakery was on, so off on our way down ST 120 to CAMDEN, MI...

It was rather late in afternoon (3'ish) and most of the good stuff was gone but we did manage to pick up a apple pie for $3 and some pumpkin bread and a pumpkin roll and even chatted with, get this Silas Eicher who happened to be walking from barn to house, nice man about mid 30's ..

So after that back home we came and I have pictures but have to put them on my host site or web site and will let you know when...

Have a good day,,,

Re: LaGrange

Tom, as always, thanks for sharing. We'll have to work on getting the ability to put photos up on this site again.  But it sounds like you had a picture-perfect day to explore the Amish settlements in that area.  And it sounds like even with it being late afternoon slim pickin's at the bakery that you still made out like a bandit: apple pie and homemade pumpkin roll. Yum! - Kevin
