Homemade Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Brownies

If you're like me, sometimes you forget that brownies be made without buying boxed mix.  Lovina's 10-year-old daughter, Susan, has been baking up a storm these days, and brownies are one of her favorite foods.  This is a really good recipe featured in The Amish Cook column that will run in most markets this week and next.  By the way, stay tuned to this site because we will soon be offering the weekly Amish Cook column to read right here on this website. You can get it first by subscribing, so stay tuned......

CHOCOLATE CHIP OATMEAL BROWNIES

1 cup butter

2/ 3 cup white sugar

1 /2 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 /4 teaspoon nutmeg

2 cups chocolate chips

2 /3 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1 cup flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 cups oatmeal

Beat butter, sugars, and eggs until fluffy.  Blend in dry ingredients and chocolate chips. Spread into 9X13 inch pan.  Sprinkle with the rest of the chocolate chips. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
