Did you say, "Amish Goats...?"

I suppose this shouldn't surprise me, as we've discussed here before how the "English" world seems to have an odd fascination with the Amish.  What I read today on my cousin's personal blog, however, was still say the least, and very 'out of left field.'

My cousin has been involved, for more than a decade, with the Austin Summer Musical for Children (  This year, the show includes a couple of characters based on the "Billy Goats Gruff" and apparently, at a recent rehearsal meeting, it was decided by the director that the Goats should be Amish.  Huh?  What's more...not only should they be Amish, but as part of their "Goat Song" one of them will yodel (not so surprising, I suppose, after the decision to make them 'Amish Goats') and the other will RAP.  Um...WHAT???  My cousin doesn't seem to understand the connection, either - although she did say they tested the song before a group of 3rd and 4th graders that loved it so much, they asked the performers to do it three more times!

So...if anyone will be near Austin, Texas one of the first two weekends of August, and would like to see an Amish Billy Goat Rapper...catch the Austin Summer Musical for Children!  Tongue out

That should have read redundancy not whatever that word is that i just made up. Tongue out

Re: Did you say, "Amish Goats...?"

Children like redunancy and rap is pretty redundant so I guess it fits.

On a side note the Amish goat rapping thing sounds like the video Weird Al Yankovic put out in the 90's where he redid a gangsta rap song called "Gangsta Paradise" into "Amish Paradise."

Yup we Englishers are crazy for anything even remotely Amish. I even saw a blog a few years ago where they had a list of who is cooler the Amish or the Hasidic Jews since they have some similarity in dress and both are more insulated groups from the mainstream. Anyways it turned into an online competition and the Amish won by a landslide on everything except for music.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift... that's why they call it the present."

LOL.... did they let the children vote or something on this stuff?  If so, then MAYBE it makes more sense Wink
