Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

SIGH, this whole story just seems silly all the way around.  It's silly that the government is spending it's time and money prosecuting someone for selling raw milk.  And it's silly that humans drink milk in the first place.  As I've said ad nausem, we are the only animal to drink the mammary fluids of other animals.  A giraffe doesn't drink zebra milk, a rabbit doesn't drink cat's milk, and so on....I think the whole issue of "raw milk" could be solved by simply having the purchaser sign a waiver removing the seller from liability and be done with it.  But, no, at least in Pennsylvania selling raw milk is a criminal act.

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

lets be realistic, everyone that is putting their two cents on this article has and is still gulping down the milk (fluids) for one mammal or another. There's lots of food products that contain it in one or another form. So, lets just get passed this article. :)

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

They say pictures are worth a thousand words, this just proves that other animals do drink other spieces milk.

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

That is a cute picture! I should have made my earlier comments a bit more specific: humans are the only animals that consume milk after infancy.....now someone refute THAT:)

Put a bowl of milk down for an adult cat, and see how long it lasts!  Wink

Humans are the only animals to cook their food, so we do have some good, original ideas!  Otherwise, homemade bread would just be a bowl of cold, lumpy paste Wink

We once had a dog (had never had pups) that allowed a kitten we got from the pound and was supposed to be old enough to be weaned, to try to at least nurse off her.  He had an unfortunately accident when he was about 3, but I would find her on her side with him trying to nurse his entire time with us.

Gee, now that u put it that way, it does sounds nasty, that we are the only mammals that drink other mammals milk.Undecided

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

GOD BLESS YOU

Besides when i was telling this to my granddaughter (who had already convinced me that her mother only allowed her to drink rice mild) when she began extoling the wonders of cows; milk.  Her father piped in with the comment that we eat cattle but they do not eat us so the story is not valid.  This was good natured but seemed rather odd that i would be discussing this with the avowed RICE milk drinker.

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

Hey Kevin, we are not the only animals that drink other animals milk. I have seen on the news moma dogs taking on orphan kittens, I know that foals that have lost their mothers can be cared for by milking goats, they just put the goat on a bail of straw so she is high enough so the foal can find the (T)Wink I would be lost without my ice cream...yum. My Dad (86yrs.) was raised on raw milk, took him a long time to get used to store bought.

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

SIGH, okay, you all are semi-persuading me on some of your points....And I agree with LuvM....if other animals had our technology...if Camels had opposable thumbs and more developed brains they might well be making their own ice cream...

Humans are the only animals to drink other animals milk because we are the only ones with the technology (and 10 articulated fingers) to extract the delicious white goodness!  Wink

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

I'll not disagree that drinking milk is weird but I do know animals (usually ones around humans to begin with) that would disagree with you about drinking other animals milk.  At our house right now all the cats and dogs will drink milk - and choose it over water if they get a choice.  I've seen barn cats and kittens drink raw milk that the farmer squirted their way.  The bottles that zoo or rescue center animals get aren't tiger, elephant, or bear milk that someone got from another of their species...  Wink    --Kay :)

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

Dang, you know, I hadn't thought about that..Okay, all of that is cool....DRINKING milk, now that still is weird....I drink milk, and I still think it's weird....I mean, again, it's the same concept as a hippo, skunk, or zebra wanting to drink human breast milk if you really think about it...but ice cream, cheese, cool whip....all good stuff!

Re: Mennonite Farmer Found Guilty.....

Ah but Kevin, think of all the things you would have to do without if we didn't consume milk.....ice cream, cool whip, cream for my coffee, butter, pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese, the list could go on and on.......
