Amish In Indiana; Leaving the Amish

This is an abridged Associated Press version of a larger article than ran in the Louisville Courier-Journal.  The piece chronicles the successful establishment of a new Amish settlement west of Louisville in southern Indiana.   I love visiting newly established Amish communities and watching their integration into the area.  I was planning to write in the next few days anyway about why the Amish tend to move so much.  So this article is a good primer and I'll have more to say on the topic soon.

Local TV news can sometimes be so unnecessarily sensationalistic.  WBKO, the ABC affiliate in Bowling Green, Kentucky is hyping a "special report".  This "special report" is simply an interview with a husband and wife who left the Amish several years ago.  Big deal. People leave and switch religions all the time. The Amish are no different.  The couple really isn't all that negative about the Amish, so there's nothing really "newsy" in what they have to say.  While the article is interesting, I'm not sure what makes it "news" and certainly it's nothing special, WBKO should have labeled it "not so special report."
