Updated/Clarified: Having Class?

There is so much misinformation, ignorance, and just unmet expectations that people have about the Amish that I thought it would be worthwhile -and fun - to attempt to combat some this in a unique way.  I have scheduled an online class called "Introduction to the Amish" for July 7 at 7 p.m. right here online.   We're going to learn about rumspringa, about the differences between the various "plain churches", the impact of technology on the Amish, and the geographic spread of their settlements.   The class will include videos, voice, and interactive discussion between myself and students.   I am an expert on my own experiences with the Amish.  I'm NOT a Phd, nor an anthropologist.  My degree is in philosophy, but I've been studying and writing about the Amish and other plain groups for over 20 years and like to think I have my own unique perspective to offer.  But if you're looking for an academic, a true academic to teach, then this is not the course for you.  The class will be $39 or $29 for Friend Club members.  This is all new, so there may be kinks, but I am going to try to work them all out ahead of time.  To keep the size manageable, where we can all participate, I am going to limit class size to 30 people.  If we get more than 30, then I'll simply schedule another class.  If you think you are interested, email me at and I will email you a link to register in the days ahead.  Space is first come, first serve.  Right now the class is a "private" class, invitation only, so if you are interested you have to email me and I'll send you the registration link.  This is just something new I thought I'd try and we'll see how it goes!  If this goes well, I'll have other course offerings in the future, for instance, an Amish Cooking basics course.

Re: Updated/Clarified: Having Class?

hi Kevin, how about if I bring Lovina's home made grape juice instead of just grapes?

How do I sign up and pay for the class?

thanks, CarylAnne

Re: Having Class?

I think I would really like that, however my computer skills are rather limited. If Wayne is home..no problem..he has a degree in some of this type of stuff. If it 's just me..HELP!!! Kidding aside, I will check it out, sounds like I wouldn't have to go to the library for a change. I will be in touch..thanks for the opportunity!!! (Virtual grapes??!!??).

Re: Having Class?

Do I bring an Apple?  Wink

   Red or Green?

Re: Having Class?

Red seedless!Laughing

Re: Having Class?

There are these really good grapes that are part red and part green they have this fancy name that starts with an "M" that we got last year, they were only available for a little while - they were so yummy, sweet, soft peels, juicy.... even better than red seedless!!
