Alert: 16-Year-Old Amish Girl Missing

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is running a story today about a missing 16-year-old Amish girl.  Hopefully they'll find the 52-year-old man who was last with her and he can lead them to the girl.  I've run into this a surprising number of times in my dealings with the Amish:  some quixotic non-Amish person thinks it is their job to "protect" the poor, vulnerable Amish person or to "shepherd them out of the Amish" into our "wonderful civilized world."    Both views are, in the end, condescending and patronizing.  Amish people are perfectly capable of choosing their own religious route and personal journey.  So hopefully this character will step aside and lead police to the girl. Re: Alert: 16-Year-Old Amish Girl Missing

A troubling update to the original report states the man this girl was last seen with is a registered sex offender. I hope she is well and found soon.

Re: Alert: 16-Year-Old Amish Girl Missing

Thanks, that is troubling, a 52-year-old man has no business with a 16-year-old....I hope they find him asap.

Not that I could help, but Du bois is an hr and 1/2  from here. My son often works from there. I have told him and because of his work in the motor coach business, he often can spot things that others may miss. Perhaps something will work out . We can only hope for the best....
