FEATURED RECIPE

Okay, so we realize homemade white bread (thanks to the Atkins diet) is about an unfashionable as a polka-dotted necktie these days. But there are still a few people who enjoy homemade bread.  The low carb craze hasn't hit Amish kitchens yet, and a homemade loaf of bread is still a staple of most Amish diets.  Following is Lovina's recipes for a full, fluffy loaf of homemade white bread. Sorry, Atkiners!

WHITE BREAD

2 packages yeast
5 cups lukewarm water
2 tablespoons salt
4 heaping tablespoons sugar

Lard (size of an egg)

Let rise till double in size   Work down. Let rise again.   Work down and form loaves and put in pans. Bake in 350 degree oven around ½ hour or when done as it depends on what size loaves you make.   You can make one one pound loaf or whatever size.
