Lovina Has a New Fan!

My 14 year old granddaughter decided last week to fill some of her spare time with baking, rather than TV and YouTube!  I offered the Baking Book for her to take a look at and she loves it!  She has made the buttermilk cookies and oatmeal whoopie pies, both of which came out splendidly.  She is now wanting to make some creative changes, such as using King Arthur Flour's Fiori de Sicilia (a wonderful flavoring) in the buttermilk cookies

I'm so proud of her!  She chose to do all the mixing by hand rather than use my electric hand mixer, saying that she wanted to put all the love into it and make it the way it was intended.  She  has recommended the book to her beau's grandmother and found that she, too, loves Amish recipes.

Back to King Arthur flour: I can only buy the all-purpose and bread flour locally (oh, also the organic and white whole wheat) so I order quite a bit from their website. There, I can get the pastry and cake flour and a modified pastry blend and SO many other ingredients. Take a look! www.kingarthurflour.com.  And a visit to their store (about 1 1/2 hours from me in Vermont) is like Christmas all year!

Glad the next generation is enjoying Lovina too.  Don't worry too much if young girls would rather be doing something other than cooking, I was one of them until I landed in a relationship where I wanted to please the other person.  When I found out that homemade food with love in it worked?  Shoot---I've been cooking up a storm for 5 years now.  (better late than never)

I think it's great to get a young person to find out how much better tasting  things are when made from scratch.  You actually know what the ingredients are in those cookies.   I have seen King Arthur flour in the store but I have never used it.

I use nothing but King Arthur flour: bread flour, white whole wheat, pastry and cake flour, etc.  I have found it to be excellent and produces superior results.  The only flour I use besides King Arthur is White Lily for biscuits.

That is all I use as well. I agree that King Arthur is superior to other brands. I can't find it in our local store(there's only 1!),so I go to BJ's about 25 miles from here. I get 30-50 # at a time. I store it in 5 gal. plastic foodgrade buckets with lids. I buy sugar the same way.

Very nice!! I hope she maintains her enthusiasm forever! Not too many young girls enjoy cooking anymore..what a pity.
