The Amish Cook from Oasis Newsfeatures

Yum....Breakfast and Video Blog....

This is is a photo of breakfast at Lovina's on Friday morning.  She filled too 9 X 13 baking dishes with an egg/bacon bake. It was a simple, but delicious, breakfast. I can just tell the difference in fresh eggs vs. store bought eggs.  In fact, Lovina's sister, Emma, served hard-boiled eggs with our supper Friday night.  They were these plump, delicious, fresh eggs, light salted..I ate two, but I could have easily eaten 5.  These eggs were so fresh, nothing like the rubbery restaurant eggs you sometimes get.

I will be posting more photos and videos in the days ahead, but I wanted to take some time out to address one of the more common misconceptions about the Amish.  I posted this video on Facebook, but I wanted to make it available here, too.  So click here for a bit of a "video blog" from me today.

Re: Yum....Breakfast and Video Blog....

The breakfast casserole looks so yummy.I don't see the recipe posted on here. I would love to have it. I enjoy this column so much. Also the comments from readers.

Re: Yum....Breakfast and Video Blog....

LOL.... I am baking a breakfast casserole for supper as I type this!  "Brinner" is a favorite meal around here when I have had a busy day or when supper time creeps up on me.

Recently, I was given 2 dozen of farm-fresh eggs.  The yolks are much more orange and they definitely have an "eggy-er" taste to them.  But I did have some bloody spots, which I know are common in farm eggs.

Re: Yum....Breakfast and Video Blog....

The bloody spots are because the eggs are fertile.Your "gifters" have a rooster! Be happy in knowing that this only adds to their health benefit!!! In some cultures, they eat only fertile eggs. We do the same...only because we raise chickens, and of course to do that you need a rooster!!! LOL!!!

I also liked the video!  Keep up the good work!

Re: Yum....Breakfast and Video Blog....

I enjoy the videos as well! I am always learning something new. I didn't know about the telephones "back in the day" either! Interesting!

Re: Yum....Breakfast and Video Blog....

I won't even get into the "rubbery egg" thing, since I haven't eaten a store egg more than twice in my life(soon to be 50 years). I did learn from your video that the Amish once embraced telephones...I did not know that before. As I have said many, many times...I am always learning something new on this site. I recently ordered some cherries from a local, small newspaper ad. The ad was placed by an Amish farmer, which I had to write to. I sent him my address as well as phone #. I haven't heard back yet, but it's only been 6 or 7 days. The Amish settlement is about 35(+-) miles away. I'll let you know the outcome. Keep the videos coming,I really enjoy them!!!
