Traveling/Packing....

I am just a few hours away from hitting the road for a swing through several of my favorite "plain communities."  I'm going on this trip by myself since it's just too busy at Rachel's work to get away.  There are pros and cons to solo journeys.   I miss the companionship of having someone with me, but I enjoy the soltitude of the open road.  Just being able to think and ponder with nothing but miles of empty ribbons of road unfurling before me is very peaceful.  My accomodations are inevitably dingier when I am alone, which is a con.  But they are also cheaper, which is a pro.  Rachel has standards when traveling, maybe a Hampton Inn or a Howard Johnson.  I tend to scrape the bottom of the barrel.  Why spend a  lot of $$$, if it's just me and all I need is a bed, shower, wireless internet and a pizza parlor close by?  I can get all of that at Motel 6, of course, I also have to barricade myself in the room for the night and wear a biohazard suit to bed to avoid coming in contact with the nasty comforter.  I think as I have gotten older I have a packing system in place so I don't forget crucial stuff.  The key component is my "pre-trip checklist."  Cell phone, cell phone chargers, laptop, laptop charger, camera, drivers license...there's just too much to take and inevitably I forget my toothbrush.  I need to put that on the pre-trip list.    Okay, I have to get out of here but I'll post my first clue this evening as to where I am......

Re: Traveling/Packing....

Shoot, I just throw everything into a big trash bag and off I go...

Re: Traveling/Packing....

I forget things even when I do have a trip list.  I thought it was just me. lol

Re: Traveling/Packing....

I made a check list for our camper, just left it in the computer and when I would think of something just add to and when I got ready to start packing...print it out.

Re: Traveling/Packing....

Kevin, my dh keeps a 'dop-kit' ready for travel.  It has everything personal he needs.  All he has to do is pack the bag, and he doesn't have to worry about forgetting any personal items.  He does replensh it if the need arises, when he gets back home, that way he doesn't have to worry about it the next time.

Re: Traveling/Packing....

#!  After writing specifically this morning about forgetting my toothbrush, the pre-trip check-list, etc, what did I discover when I got to my hotel tonight???  FORGOT THE TOOTHBRUSH...Arrgh, I guess to the front-desk I go......

Re: Traveling/Packing....

Now THAT'S funny! Laughing  Not for you so much, but it made me laugh out loud!

Re: Traveling/Packing....

Wow, toothbrushes with toothpaste already on them? That's cool, unless it's someone else's used toothpaste, lol I have been camping for 35 years and to this day, I still have to use a check list every time before we go, or else I'd forget something, which I inevitably seem to do, anyway! Good thing we are never far from a Wal-Mart or dollar store when we camp at Indian Lake, our usual place to camp. Kevin, just toss that comforter aside when you retire for the evening. Yuck! At least with my camper, I know who's been sleeping on my sheets at night!  Tongue out You and Rachel need to get a travel trailer.

Re: Traveling/Packing....

Please tell us you are going to eat something beyond pizza all week!  Or are you going to balance the pizza diet with baked goods from the communities you will be visiting...

Do try to have an egg or orange every other day or so Tongue out

Re: Traveling/Packing....

Re: Traveling/Packing....

That is true, and I've had to request them too many times!  The ones with toothpaste already on the brush are kinda cool!
