Something Fishy?

I posted this on my personal Facebook page and thought it was interesting discussion material.   This sign is at my local Captain D's.  Captain D's is features fast-food fish.  I'm not sure if it is a national or regional restaurant chain.   Anyway, this sign annoys me because I can't figure it out.  There are several possibilities: 1) the sign is simply a poor grammar reflection of local vernacular  2) A tongue-in-cheek parody of local vernacular 3) the "them" isactually correct, but the sentence lacks a comma or a colon ...For example: "we have them: fried green tomatoes!"  I suppose even a comma would be OK in place of the colon.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Something Fishy?

I guess it ought to read, We Have Them!!!! Fried Green Tomatoes! But I assume there were no exclamation marks in the sign maker's box of letters. I like fried green tomatoes, by the way. I also like green tomato pickles. I canned several jars of green tomato pickles last year because for some reason I had a bumper crop of tomatoes, and the season was very late.

Re: Something Fishy?

I go with Barb and Terri.  I can see how it could be read the other ways you mentioned -- probably why punctuation was developed!

Re: Something Fishy?

I agree with Barb.

Re: Something Fishy?

I'm going with the lack of punctuation(hopefully!).

Re: Something Fishy?

we can only hope.  the poorly done signage and commercials are quite annoying. It also teaches this to young folks. If you think not, remember how you were reading and spelling everything on signs and storefronts when you learned to read.
