This is a well-written richly detailed article about a charming tradition among the Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: ice hockey. Frozen ponds that dot the county countryside during winter become makeshift rinks where an Amish version of "Friday Night Lights" plays out. This wonderful tradition is typical of variations within the Amish community. Ice hockey is virtually unheard of among Amish in other areas, where sleigh-riding or ice-fishing might be more popular. This variational quirkiness among the Amish is another quality I've always found endearing.

Skate in Ohio
I remember watching a group of young Amish people (girls and boys) skating on a pond in the area of Millersburg (Ohio). It was around 9 p.m. if I remember well and they had generator too for the light. It was a very peaceful and strange sight to see those dark shapes sliding part in the bright light of the generators and part in the darkness of the night. Anyway they seemed to have fun!
