Amish Group Plans To Settle In Jefferson County, IowaA group of Amish families from the Kalona area are buying up land and plan to settle in the northeast corner of Jefferson County near Brighton in southeast Iowa. Real estate agent Steve Rebling says the families, facing a crowded real estate market in Kalona, are looking for a place with plentiful, less expensive land. Land owner Marilyn McGuire says the families hope to be relocated by spring after school is out for the year. McGuire and her husband, Kenneth, recently sold their 300-acre farm eight miles south of Brighton to one family. Two other land purchases are pending. Many of the Amish farmers will focus on dairy farming so they are looking for rolling pastures rather than flat tillable land. |
