I made this for supper last night. My lettuce and onions are doing well, but those alone can get "mundane". Here's the recipe: Fry 1/2 # bacon until crisp. Remove and crumble, save the drippings in the pan.Set bacon aside. On a serving platter, put a bed of lettuce;as much as desired, torn into bite sized pieces. Chop 2 or 3 green onions on top of that. Chop 2 boiled eggs on top of that. Add the reserved bacon. In the frying pan,to the drippings, add 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/3 cup sugar, pepper and ground mustard (to taste-I used abt 1/4 tsp). Bring it to a boil, and when the sugar is dissolved, pour it over your lettuce platter. Simple, yet delicious!

Re: Wilted lettuce..
This recipe also works very well with fresh spinach...just make sure you get all the sand out of the spinach!
Re: Wilted lettuce..
In the mountains they call it "killed lettuce". My father-in-law also added small chunks of sharp cheddar cheese to his.
Re: Wilted lettuce..
Funny name!! I might try the cheese, I think it would be good. Thanks!!
Re: Wilted lettuce..
I have fixed this but didn't put the ground mustard in mine. My husband doesn't like egg so I always put sliced egg on my lettuce before I eat. I might have to try it with the ground mustard next time. thanks for sharing .
