Re: Whoopie Pie Festival
Hi,How did the whoopie get its name? It might have been on here and I missed it. Thanks
Re: Whoopie Pie Festival
We called these "moon pies" in the South. In Western PA there is a recipe for GOBS that are similar.
Re: Whoopie Pie Festival
Thanks, Sherrie, yes, I think gobs and whoopie pies are essentially the same thing, but, Moon Pies? Anyone else have any thoughts on that? The moon pie is.....somehow different than a whoopie pie isn't it?
Re: Whoopie Pie Festival
Yes, Kevin, you are correct in that a moon pie and a whoopie pie are different things (at least here in SW Ohio). A moon pie consists of cake layers, separated by marshmallow creme, all coated with a thin layer of chocolate.
Re: Whoopie Pie Festival
Doesn't a moon pie have kind of a crispy chocolate wafer over the cake then the marshmallow? I like them but haven't had one in years.
Re: Whoopie Pie Festival
Yeah, that sounds like what I remember, Cat lover.
Re: Whoopie Pie Festival
My husband and I attened this event last year. They made a pie that weighed 225lbs. They also have over 100 different kinds of whoopie pie fillings to choose from, they are big enough to be called a meal.

Our local newspaper has a mascot named Sunny Day ( sort of like Flat Stanley). We took him along.
