Ashley HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!

As most of you know we had a major medical emergency in March, when our grand-daughter Ashley had a 4 wheeler accident.

She is doing great.  She completed her sophomore year as a homebound student.  She did really well, and passed all of her classes...even Spanish!  It wasn't a really high grade like the rest of them, but at least she passed.

Today she turned 16.  She took her driving test and passed, so now she has a driving permit.  She has been driving trucks and tractors since she was about 9 or 10 here on the farm.  She got the permit and took the keys from her Mom and drove to Wal-Mart and then the 15 miles home.  I have a feeling her Pop or I will not be driving much anymore when she is with us.  I have no qualms about riding with her.

The whole accident ordeal could have been really bad, but thank the Lord, her guardian angel was on her shoulder when she wrecked that  4 wheeler.

This proud Grannie had to share about our Birthday Girl.

Ashley's Journey back from the Accident

If you didn't see the small scars on her face, the big bruises on her cheek, or the way she stands (back), you wouldn't know anything had happened to her.

She wouldn't eat while she was in the hospital, and ate very little the first 4 or 5 days home.  She has just about got her appetite back now.  I try to cook special things that I know she likes.

What you can't see tho is the main problem.  When she hit the tree, she hit the front and middle of the head. The doctors say it is the "personality" part of the brain.  It didn't affect her speech,  comprehension, or motor skills. She was a fun-loving child, always laughing, always picking on someone, and loved crowds and fun.

Since the accident, she doesn't like to eat "in" a resturant.  She would rather get the food and go sit in the car.  She doesn't like noise, or crowds.  Some times, she can't get out the right word (has only happened 2 times tho) but after a couple of seconds she says it. She was always on the phone talking or texting.  Now, she talks very little on the phone, but has picked up texting some.

Where she goes to school, there are 1500 children that have to change classes within 5 minutes.  Noise, rowdiness, etc. in the halls would not go well in her recuperation.  We have started the process to have her taught by a homebound teacher for the rest of this year.  They only have 7 weeks to go anyway. She is a A-B student, so she shouldn't have any trouble doing her work at home when she feels like it.

We all have a long road ahead of us...but God has answered our prayers since the accident, and I know he will take care of us.  He won't give us any more than we can handle.

Thank you Brendalynne for asking how she was doing.

She is HOME

Well, our prayers have been answered and Ashley came home from the hospital.  She is doing  better, but still has a long way to go.  She can not stand any bright lights or loud noises.

The last cat scan before she left found 3 more fractures of the back.  She must have hit that tree really hard.  She doesn't remember any of it.  The neighbor that was riding with her thinks when he hit the water puddle with his bike, water must have gone in her eyes and she lost control of hers.

We have a long way to go until they think she will be back to normal.  I know she is heartbroken that she will not get to ride her horse this summer.

Thank you all for the kindness you have shown.   This is a good bunch of peope on this site.   Karen

Update on Ashley's condition

I got to go to Evansville today to see her.  She slept for most of the time I was there.  However, she is doing much better (has to be from all the wonderful prayers going her way from this all of you)

Once she woke up this afternoon, they started sitting her up in bed some.  Once they found out she would not be sick to her stomach, they removed all of the tubes.  She is much more alert now and they have started giving her some pain medicine.

The orthapedic surgeon checked her tonight, and after taking another x-ray tomorrow, will decide if she will have surgery on the 2 fractures around the eye socket.  He is very hopeful that the fractures will heal themselves without surgery.  Tomorrows x-ray will tell.

I am going to try and take her Poppa (my hubby) with me tomorrow.  I think it will do both of them good to see each other.  She is our First Grand-child and only grand-daughter.  And she is Pop's girl.

I would like to thank all of you for your prayers and kind comforting words.  Prayer is a very powerful thing.  May God bless all of you.   Karen
